Painted with egg tempera and covered with 23.75 karat gold leaf on wood panel decorated with a kovcheg (a recess on the front side symbolizing the Ark of the Covenant). The scene depicts Christ in the Jordan River being baptized by Saint John the Baptist, with the dove descending on his head, and two angels assisting him from the shore.
